Functional Foods: Spices, Teas & Plant Powders
Millions of people around the world are discovering that a whole food, plant-based diet is the most effective intervention for the prevention, suspension and reversal of lifestyle or non-communicable diseases. Simultaneously, researchers are exploring ways to enhance a whole food plant-based diet through the addition of Functional Foods like herbs, spices, teas, fruit and vegetable powders and others. Historically, herbs, spices, teas and fruit/vegetable powders, long thought to have powerful medicinal effects, have been a central part of ancient traditions like Ayurveda.
While awareness has grown significantly, many people are not aware of the large body of research on the beneficial effects of using functional foods like teas, herbs and spices or of the new science emerging in support of the use of fruit/vegetable powders.
Dr. Scott Stoll, Dr. Bharat Aggarwal, Dr. Michael Greger and John Blair, participated in an enlightening and engaging scientific Plantrician Education Series, Town Hall discussion about how herbs, spices, teas, fruit/vegetable powders and other functional foods may dramatically enhance the nutrient density and total antioxidant capacity of a well-planned, whole-food, plant-based diet.
